Who Are The Unknown Gunmen? Nigerians give Opinions points fingers to different groups!

Concerned Nigerian citizens have shown worries over the perpetual attacks on the security personnel at various locations in the states of the South-East geopolitical zone. Some have gone a long way to finding a comparison between the Bandits and the activities of the Unknown Gunmen, although, without valid points.

Just in a couple of months, no fewer than seven different locations have been attacked in the states of Imo, Abia and Anambra, leaving scores of casualties and undisclosed quantum of arms and ammunition carted away, by the Unknown Gunmen. The incident at Awkuzu, Neni, Ekwulobia, Ihiala of Anambra and Isiala Mbano in Imo States respectively over the week has brought it to the point of palpable tensions in the region.

Meanwhile, as the unpredictable ugly incidents persist, the people especially, those in the security agencies are beginning to sleep with their eyes open. This is to aver how the civilians lead their lives in a wee hour of uncertainties like this.
Recall that the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was on a live broadcast of the last month given a forty-day ultimatum to evacuate every military checking point in Biafra Land, following several allegations based on extrajudicial killings, dehumanizations, etc labelled against police/military personnel in the region.

Amidst all, there has been a deafening silence from the side of the government, following several records of attacks on the police stations, military checking points among others in the various locations in the region. Maybe, plans are underway.

Nevertheless, the seemingly political atmosphere bedevilling the security situation in the states across the country have heightened uncertainties without decipherable proactive measures leading to disillusionment over the crumbling cataclysm of hopes to winning the prevailing war against terrorisms, banditry and insurgencies in this part of the world.

Ceteris Paribus, the question is; Who are the Unknown Gunmen? A million question begging for an answer.

Consequent to the formation and official declaration of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a lot of unprecedented circumstances have continued to unfold.

To this effect, some have allegedly pointed accusing fingers on the ESN over the ongoing attacks on security personnel in the region. In the same vein, others have alleged the security situation was a child of Political agenda by the leaders in the South-East geopolitical zone.

On the other hand, some have speculated that the said sect are from outside countries.

However, others have desperately moved to link the Unknown Gunmen to the ESN.

Nonetheless, the following roles and activities could answer your queries:
Eastern Security Network ESN was purposefully set up against terrorists activities carried out by suspected herdsmen against the people, especially farmers of the South-East region.

Secondly, the Eastern Security Network are under one command of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Moreover, ESN have a defined territory (Forests) for their operations in the region

Again, the ESN don’t fight to kill civilians, or law abiding citizens but, are to apprehend and present to God for an immediate judgement of those who are after the lives of the Indigenous People of the region.
Contrarily the Unknown Gunmen from their activities so far, are after the people in Nigeria military uniforms, and their arms and ammunitions.

They, therefore, focused on stations, divisional headquarters, checking points of their culprits.

Thus, from the above presentation, one could tell the points of convergences and divergences between the Eastern Security Network ESN and the Unknown Gunmen based on formation, and activities.
