The chairman of the committee Hon. Saka Solaja in a statement on Wednesday said that he and his colleagues received the first set of government officials summoned to respond to queries raised in the report.

Describing the PAC, Solaja noted it as a statutory establishment of Sections 125 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, added that the committee serves as an important instrument of checks, probity and accountability in Legislative institutions at both the Federal and the State levels.

Legendary singer, Femi Kuti has opened up on some of the travails he faced while growing up.

2023: Atiku’s Emergence As President Will Bring Igbos Close To Corridors Of Power – Anambra PDP

The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come out to say that the emergence of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as president in the 2023 general election is a move to bring Igbos to the corridors of power.

According to the Anambra state PDP, the Atiku-Okowa’s presidential ambition is the Igbo man’s surest bet to power, as well as restructuring of the country.

Naija News reports that the Director General, of the PDP’s newly inaugurated Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the state, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the Anambra PDP members should not allow sentiments or emotional attachment to draw them too close to the state’s former governor, Peter Obi, who is the presidential hopeful for the Labour Party (LP).

Okonkwo, who noted that Obi’s presidential quest will not sell because it lacked a strong alliance, told members in the state shortly after the inauguration of the PCC that it is only Atiku’s presidential ambition that has the tendency for an Igbo man to come closer to the corridors of power where major decisions are taken.

He advanced that Atiku has always had a burning desire to bond with an Igbo man throughout his political sojourn, noting that his decision to identify with the Atiku-Okowa’s presidency is because he does not see any problem with a Fulani man who has solutions to the country’s problem succeeding another Fulani as president in 2023.

Naija News understand that similarly, the party’s Anambra PCC chairman, Ben Obi, also pointed out that the Atiku-Okowa’s presidential quest is not difficult to market, because it is the surest way for the Igbos to smell power.

Obi, who described the vice presidential candidate for the PDP, Ifeanyi Okowa as the Igbo man’s next-door neighbour, explained that his choice as Atiku’s running mate meets the demand of the Ohanaeze to witness the emergence of an Igboman at Aso Rock in 2023.

He, therefore, appealed to the PCC members to go all out to sell the Atiku-Okowa vision to all wards and polling units of the state to ensure victory in 2023.

The Anambra PDP campaign council chairman also told party members in the state to focus on delivering Atiku as Nigeria’s next president, and ignore all the threats posed by Obi, and his counterpart in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Justice Peter Umeadi.

One Injured As Top Kano APC Chieftains ‘Fight’ During Stakeholders Meeting

One Injured As Top Kano APC Chieftains 'Fight' During Stakeholders Meeting

An All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting reportedly ended abruptly in Kano after party chieftains engaged in a heated argument.

Naija News understands that the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa and the state’s Deputy Gubernatorial candidate, Murtala Sule Garo, were both involved in the confrontation.

Insiders had told newsmen that the latest tantrum between the party stakeholders could be a setback for the ambition of APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, if care is not taken.

Barely a week ago, Tinubu was in Kano for 3-day interactive meetings with party stakeholders and religious, traditional and business leaders in the state.

Unfortunately, the party chieftains, despite the recent development targeted at ensuring a smooth relationship amongst them ahead of the 2023 general elections, engaged in the feud on Monday night at the residence of the state’s deputy governor and governorship candidate, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, where party stakeholders were having a meeting.

Naija News learnt that Garo sustained an injury from the heated exchange of words, as reports also claimed that Doguwa threw a teacup at him during the altercation.

Garo Jumped At Me First – Doguwa

Narrating his side of the story at a press briefing on Tuesday, Doguwa admitted that he was indeed not invited to the meeting at Gawuna’s residence but was only there to meet with the party’s chairman, Abdullahi Abbas.

Daily Trust quoted the lawmaker as saying that he met the party chieftains holding the meeting and that after seeing the calibre of people at the meeting, he jokingly enquired why the National Assembly caucus was not represented.

He said Garo immediately questioned him whether he must be invited to every meeting.

According to Doguwa, he felt slighted by Garo’s questioning because he felt his standing as the party’s NEC member and a member of the national caucus, aside from being a Majority Leader of the green chamber, should naturally qualify him to be in attendance.

He said: “I was upset and felt denigrated, and while complaining, Garo jumped at me and started insulting me but I initially only told him ‘thank you’, but while I was calling the deputy governor and party chairman’s attention to the insults, he continued and even attempted to grab my cloth. It was then I lost my cool and returned his insults.”

Clarifying the tea cup and the injury, the House Leader said the cup fell while Garo was shaking the table, and he (Garo) slipped from the tea that spilt from the cup, and that was where he injured himself.

“I did not injure Murtala. I did not fight him, but I exchanged unpleasant words with him and then my brother Aruwa moved me out of the place. The news that is going around (portraying me as the aggressor) is fake and unfounded,” Doguwa added.

He said he remained committed to the APC as always and would continue to respect the constituted authority of the party, but urged the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to, as a matter of urgency, step into the crisis before it spiralled out of control and cost the party in 2023

“We are facing an unprecedented opposition”, he said, referring to the growing strength of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and other parties in the state and country at large.

Nnamdi Kanu: IPOB Accuses Uzodinma Of Conspiracy With Malami Against Kanu’s Release

We Have Won Them Forever, FG Has No Choice But To Release Nnamdi Kanu - Ejiofor

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma for working against the release of its leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Naija News reports that the group in a statement had accused Uzodinma of conspiring with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami against the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, alleged that Uzodinma was the one who advised Federal Government against Kanu’s release.

Powerful, while stating the group’s position about the decision of the southeast governors’ to form another security outfit, said IPOB condemns the action, adding that instead of forming a new outfit, they should support its security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN).

IPOB recalled that the southeast governors’ should remember that their insistence to form Ebubeagu militias, has resulted in killer squads.

The IPOB publicity secretary, who noted that Kanu, when released would help to stop insecurity in the region submitted that “The intelligence reports available to our authorities said that Hope Uzodinma advised the Federal Government not to release Mazi Nnamdi KANU. We want to assure the public that once our leader is released he will help to stop the criminality going on in all the troubled zones in Biafra, especially in Imo State.

“People should ask Hope Uzodinma why is he afraid of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s unconditional release from DSS custody.

“It is clear to all and sundry that once our leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU regains his freedom many sponsored criminalities going on in the East will stop because he is the man that ALL our people respect,’’ Powerful added.

Why Police Cannot Prosecute Tinubu Over Alleged Certificate Forgery – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman on Tuesday revealed why the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu can not be prosecuted over alleged certificate forgery.

Usman on Tuesday told the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that no petition has been filed with the security agency against Tinubu.

He further stated that Tinubu cannot be put on trial because he is not a suspect.

The police revealed the reasons why it can not prosecute Tinubu in an affidavit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by a counsel, Wisdom Emmanuel Madaki.

The IGP reacting to a suit instituted by a Civil Group seeking an order of mandamus to compel him to arrest and prosecute Tinubu for perjury and certificate forgery said the police have no power to prosecute Tinubu without any known offence committed.

Although the affidavit claimed that Tinubu has no pending petition before the police, the IGP, however, admitted having two different petitions from a Civil Group, Incorporated Trustees of Center for Reform and Public Advocacy requesting for arrest and prosecution of Tinubu for alleged perjury and certificate forgery related offences.

The IGP explained that the two petitions were predicated on allegations that had been adjudicated upon by Supreme Court in 2002 in a suit filed by the late foremost human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

The affidavit averred that since the alleged perjury and certificate forgery had been resolved by the Supreme Court, there was no need for police to reopen the matter again.

Besides, the IGP said the police do not need any court order to make arrests and prosecute since it derives its powers from the Constitution and statutes.

IGP asked the Federal High Court to dismiss the suit brought against him and the Nigeria Police Force for want of merit and jurisdiction adding that the plaintiff will not be prejudiced if the suit is dismissed.

The Police boss asserted that the suit on the alleged perjury and certificate forgery is frivolous and vexatious and deserves no attention from the Court.

Counsel to the Civil group, Eme Kalu Ekpu at the hearing on Tuesday told Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo that the counter affidavit of police had just been served on him and that he needed time to peruse it and reply to it formally.

Ekpu asked Justice Ekwo to grant him a short adjournment to enable him to react to the counter affidavit properly.

Justice Ekwo in his ruling granted the request and fixed January 19, 2023, for the hearing of the suit.

The IGP was dragged before the court by the Incorporated Trustees of the Center for Reform and Public Advocacy over his alleged refusal to prosecute the presidential candidate of the APC over allegations bothering on perjury.

Lagos: MC Oluomo Pledges To Address Grievances Of Striking Bus Drivers

Sequel to the commencement of the strike by commercial bus drivers in Lagos State under the aegis of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) yesterday, the Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo, has promised to address their grievances.

According to him, the agency has a conflict resolution mechanism to address the grievances of bus drivers.

MC Oluomo said he expected the aggrieved commercial bus drivers to channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters.

Naija News reports that despite his claim that he hasn’t received any complaints of extortion from any group, MC Oluomo promised to give them a fair hearing as always at meetings.

The Secretary of the Parks and Garages Management Operations, Olayiwola Lemboye, who spoke on his behalf, cautioned the aggrieved commercial bus drivers not to politicise their operations in the state.

Lemboye, who revealed that the doors of the agency are always open to address issues among members, noted that “As we speak, we have not received any communication from anyone on the issue of extortion or harassment. They ought to have reported the matter to their branch chairmen or brought it to the state secretariat or if branch chairmen are not forthcoming.

“The purported strike action has a political undertone. If not, how come they are coming under a name unknown to the law? The government recognises two bodies – the suspended National Union of Road Transport Union (NURTW) in Lagos State and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

”The Joint Drivers’ Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) is not known. Despite that, the state government’s Liaison Officer to the Parks and Garages Management, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, has also waded into the matter and held a meeting with them. Instead of adhering to the agreement reached, they resulted in blackmailing the respected retired police officer.”

Lemboye, who denied the alleged attack on members of the JDWAN, said “The Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya is a peaceful person and will never subscribe to such illegalities. More so, our operations are limited in the Berger area of Badagry where they alleged that some of their people were attacked.”

Lemboye, also appealed to Lagosians not to panic about the matter, adding that Akinsanya has been liaising with branch chairmen on how to peacefully address the grievances of the aggrieved bus drivers.

Recalled that Naija News had earlier reported that the leadership of JDWAN warned that it will support its members to embark on the seven-day boycott of Lagos roads, beginning tomorrow, Monday, October 31, 2022, to drive home their grievances of extortion by the motor parks and garages management.

It Is Time For Him To Tell Us The Kind Of Sickness He Is Suffering From – Edwin Clark Blasts Buhari

Elder statesman and First Republic Federal Commissioner for Information, Edwin Clark has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for travelling to London, United Kingdom, without handing over power to vice president Yemi Osinbajo.

Naija News recalls that the president had left the country for London yesterday for a medical checkup.

Reacting to Buhari’s trip, Clark demanded that he has to inform the country the kind of ailment he is suffering from.

He said, “Buhari should tell Nigerians the sickness he is suffering.”

According to him, Buhari should comply with the Constitution and do the needful in line with global best practices because he cannot run Nigeria from abroad.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Clark argued that the Supreme Court should be approached to seek interpretation of what Buhari had been doing without telling Nigerians the details of his health status.

He said, “Nigeria belongs to all of us, we are not running a banana State. Buhari is taking Nigerians for a ride. He doesn’t have the right to jet out to London without handing over power to the Vice President in line with the constitution.

“At 95 years old, my group has seen enough of this country for more than 70 years. Nigeria is bleeding and only God knows how much of taxpayers money must have been spent by the President on his health. It is arrogance for Buhari to think he can govern Nigeria from abroad. He should hand over power to Osinbajo.”

“It Will Happen” – Joshua Raises Hope On All-British Matchup Against Fury

"It Will Happen"-Joshua Raise Hopes On All-British Matchup Against Fury

British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, is confident that Tyson Fury and the eagerly anticipated all-British matchup will happen.

Two significant fight negotiations between the two have dragged and fallen since 2021, most recently in October.

Naija News recalls that Joshua and Fury penned a contract to face each other in 2022 with the first match to take place on August 14 in Saudi Arabia. Not long, the agreement ended in the basket when an official announcement rang in by a Judge that Deontay Wilder was entitled to a third fight with Tyson Fury.

However, this led Joshua to take on the Ukrainian Oleksandr, a matchup he lost and which may have ended his chances of facing Fury.

"It Will Happen"-Joshua Raise Hopes On All-British Matchup Against Fury

Usyk declared his retirement from boxing after three matches and would not be fighting again this year, so Fury gave Joshua a chance to challenge for his WBC title.

The initial discussions seemed to be going well, but after Fury set several deadlines, communication broke down.

Last month, it appeared that the British bout would happen when Joshua and Fury entered a negotiation to lock horns in December.

Joshua is optimistic and confident that the fight will take place despite all of the difficulties in making it happen.

While speaking to DAZN, he said, “It will happen. It will happen though. (The) same generation,”

“Aside from the entertainment side, just as two competitors, two fighters, he’s definitely a fighting man and what people fail to realise – like they say ‘the social media stuff is annoying’ but culturally speaking from Tyson Fury’s culture, the Gypsy culture. You’ve watched the documentaries on Netflix and stuff it’s embedded in his culture.

“What we see is ‘why is he on social media’ I know from growing up and being around that community as well, so I know that’s just how they call out fights and stuff, it’s nothing personal but from my culture, we don’t really deal with stuff like that we’re a bit more lowkey and handle our business so that’s where there’s a culture clash,” said Joshua.
