Nigeria Anti-Gay Law 2014: Security Foils Same-sex Weddings, Arrests, Parades Over 200 Suspects –Report

The depraved minds of the current generation of young people in society are becoming more worrisome to every right-thinking citizen of Nigeria. The reasons for the emergence of alien practices such as homosexuality and lesbianism in such a strong-bred country rooted in various belief systems and cultural heritage calls for urgent attention.

Before this era, different countries of the world including Nigeria were oblivious to the practice of same-sex marriage in society. Until now, the role of the Internet and the mainstream media which are veritable tools of media imperialism has badly affected the thinking faculty of members of the public especially the deluded youth who are often driven by an inordinate quest for wealth and freedom from abject wretchedness.

No fewer than 100 gay suspects carrying out a gay wedding ceremony at a hotel in Delta state were arrested by the Delta Police months ago. The suspects will be later paraded by the Delta Police Command.

It would be recalled that Nigeria from the outset stood against gay, or same-sex marriage. This led to the anti-gay law passed in 2014.

Consequently, homosexuals are arrested and paraded by security operatives in the country. Security operatives have since then continued to foil different attempts for individuals to carry out gay marriage and weddings, whereby over 200 suspects have been incarcerated in recent times.

It was also gathered that on the 31st of December 2021, Police cracked down on homosexuals in a hidden brothel in Isolo, Lagos.

Also, 19 young people were in 2022 arrested in Kano for allegedly attending a same-sex wedding

In the latest developments, Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Gombe State Command foiled a plan by some individuals to host a same-sex wedding.

The Command, therefore, arrested 76 suspects in connection with the development.

The state Public Relations Officer, Buhari Sa’ad, disclosed this while parading the suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Gombe on behalf of the state Commandant, Mohammed Muazu.

He said out of the 76 suspects, 59 are males with 21 said to have confessed to being homosexuals, adding that 17 females were also arrested at the scene.

He said, “They were arrested at Duwa Plaza along Bauchi-Gombe Expressway while holding a homosexual birthday and they had plans to hold a same-sex wedding before our men raided the scene.

“Fifty-nine males were arrested, 21 wilfully confessed to being homosexuals, and 17 females present at the scene were also picked.

“They will be charged to court to answer for their crime which is on social vice; a crime in Gombe State.”
