JUST IN: Peter Obi Takes Lead Against Shocking Arrest of Labour Party Leader

The Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi has openly criticized the Nigeria Police Force for their handling of the arrest of Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

The incident, which was captured in a viral video and disseminated across the internet, showed armed police officers arresting Abure in a manner that has been widely condemned. Although Abure was released on bail early Thursday morning, the event has left a lasting impact.

Peter Obi expressed his disapproval through a series of posts on his X account on Wednesday night, condemning how Abure was arrested as deplorable, demeaning, and an unequivocal display of lawlessness.

Obi, who has served as a former Governor of Anambra State and a presidential candidate, emphasized the importance of adhering to the rule of law and the proper conduct of authorities, especially in the arrest process.

Obi pointed out that while every Nigerian must respond to invitations from legally constituted authorities, the treatment of Julius Abure during his arrest was highly objectionable. Such actions, according to Obi, not only undermine the dignity of the individual but also tarnish Nigeria’s reputation as a nation governed by law.

He further stressed that the arrest procedures should always be conducted with civility, decency, and respect for the rights and dignity of citizens. The presumption of innocence until proven guilty is a fundamental principle that must be upheld.

Obi emphasized the significant role that political parties play in a democratic society, noting that as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure represents a critical voice of political opposition in Nigeria. He called for due respect to be accorded to political institutions to preserve the integrity of the country’s democratic framework.
