DSS denies abducting innocent Nigerians

The Department of State Services (DSS), has debunked reports that it has abducted some innocent citizens under President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

A publication by an online medium had quoted Amnesty International as saying that the DSS had abducted some innocent Nigerians.

Reacting on Wednesday, Peter Afunanya, Public Relations Officer Department of State Services National Headquarters Abuja, in a statement, described the reports as misleading.

According to the statement, as part of its functions, DSS arrests if and when necessary which is evidently carried out in line with tenets of democratic ideals.

“At no time has the agency embarked on its actions without following led down procedures in respect of obtaining warrants of arrest or orders for detention from competent legal authorities,” the statement noted.

The statement further added that the reports of abduction or use of enforced disappearances is an absolute lie and a make-up narrative designed to bring the service to disrepute, adding that the DSS is law-abiding and committed to the protection of citizens and sensitive government installations.
