Tragic: Suspected Gunmen Kill Police Inspector in Rivers State

In a sorrowful turn of events in Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, a Nigerian police inspector, Sunday Baba, was fatally shot by suspected robbers on Wednesday night.

The Rivers State police command confirmed the incident via a post on their X account, where they paid tribute to Inspector Baba, describing him as a courageous officer who died in the line of duty.

The police report indicated that although the attackers managed to escape, their vehicle was recovered at the scene. The statement from the police highlighted the perilous nature of police work, lamenting the uncertainty that officers face about returning home safely.

This recent attack adds to a troubling pattern of violence against law enforcement in Nigeria. In 2022, similar violent acts claimed the lives of two policemen and five civilians during a bank robbery in Edo State, as reported by SaharaReporters.

A 2020 incident saw gunmen attacking a Special Anti-Robbery Squad office in the Oyigbo Local Government area, where they fired shots indiscriminately and set police vehicles on fire.
