‘Court To Hear Wike’s Suit Seeking Atiku’s Disqualification Today’

2023: PDP Chieftain Discloses Only Solution To Atiku, Wike Rift

A Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory will hear the suit seeking the disqualification of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar today (Wednesday).

There are speculations that the suit was instituted by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike against his party’s presidential candidate. Governor Wike a few weeks ago denied being responsible for the suit filed against the former vice president. Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed is expected to hear the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022 and jointly filed with one Prince Michael Newgent Ekamon. At the time of filing this report, Governor Wike whose name is shown on the list has not stated whether he would opt out after dissociating himself from the suit. Governor Wike reportedly sues Atiku and the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal and the PDP over the conduct of its presidential primary. Recall that PDP held its presidential primary in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022. Wike and the co-applicant in the suit asked the court to determine eight issues. Part of the issues includes, whether the purported transfer of Tambuwal’s votes to Atiku by the PDP was illegal and void. The plaintiffs asked the court to determine if Tambuwal lost his claim to votes the moment he stepped down for Atiku. He asked the court to determine whether Tambuwal “having stepped down during the primaries ought to lose his votes.” Wike and Ekamon are asking the court to grant nine reliefs, including a declaration that the purported transfer of Tambuwal’s votes to Atiku be declared null and void.
