PDP Governors Fix Crucial Meeting To Discuss State Of The Nation

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to hold a strategic meeting on Monday to discuss the current state of affairs of the nation.

The meeting will discuss issues of Nigeria’s security challenges as well as how to reposition the party as a viable alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to a statement on Sunday by the director-general of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Cyril Maduabum, the meeting will hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The meeting is also expected to be attended by the 15 governors elected under the party and will be chaired by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

According to the statement, “The meeting will further review the current state of the nation, especially issues of national security and the economy,” he said.

“Also fine-tune strategies to support PDP as a viable and necessary alternative to the All Progressives Congress administration.”

Meanwhile, former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has called on the 36 state governors to take the bull by the horn and convene a National Unity Summit.

This is as he submitted that the solutions to the country’s challenges can’t be gotten from the central government in Abuja alone but every stakeholder must play their part.

Atiku in his submission on Sunday in a personally signed statement on Sunday made available to Naija News noted that the country is drifting apart and the current administration is not addressing the challenges as it should.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain added that the nation is facing several challenges but the challenges facing Nigeria were not what they looked like ten years ago and a lot of things are going wrong in the country at the moment.

He described the various challenges as ‘unNigerian’ and appealed to all stakeholders to look beyond religion, party affiliation, ethnicity, and other perceived differences and work for the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria.

The statement added that the resolution of the southern governors after their meeting on Tuesday is completely understandable but that alone may not be the solution to the problems and challenges facing the nation.
