Last night’s grand ceremony of the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) showcased a glittering celebration of African talent in film and television.
Held in Lagos, Nigeria, the event spotlighted exceptional creatives across various categories. Here’s a rundown of the notable winners who took home the prestigious awards.
The award for Best Makeup was clinched by Campbell Precious for her remarkable work in “Mami Wata.” In the technical fields, “Over The Bridge” impressed with KC Obiajulu winning Best Cinematography and Abisola Omolade securing Best Art Direction, demonstrating the film’s strong visual impact.
Scriptwriting was notably recognized with “Volume” winning Best Writing for a TV Series, and Tunde Babalola receiving accolades for his movie script “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.” In the directorial category, BB Sasore was honored as the Best Director for his leadership on the critically acclaimed “Breath of Life.”
The acting categories were fiercely contested. Kehinde Bankole received the Best Lead Actress award for her performance in “Adire,” and Wale Ojo was celebrated as Best Lead Actor for his role in “Breath of Life.” The supporting categories were swept by “Breath of Life” as well, with Genoveva Umeh and Demola Adedoyin winning Best Supporting Actress and Actor, respectively.
The awards also highlighted regional film talent with wins in indigenous language categories – “Jagun Jagun” for West Africa, “Wandongwa” for East Africa, and “Motshameko O. Kotsi” for South Africa. M-Net originals also shone with “Irora Iya,” “Nwunye Bekee (Foreign Wives),” and “Slum King” each taking home a trophy.
Chimezie Imo received the Trailblazer Award for his promising contributions to the industry. The prestigious Industry Merit Award was bestowed upon veteran Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), celebrating his enduring influence in the industry.
Top Film “Breath of Life” emerged as the biggest winner of the night, not only taking home the award for Best Movie but also sweeping several major categories, underscoring its significant impact.
