NDLEA Arrest 36-year-old Nigerian Female Lawyer, Mum, Boyfriend, Herbalist, 3 Others

In a recent joint operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and State Homeland Security arrested a group involved in trafficking illicit substances in Abia State, southeast Nigeria.

Among those arrested were a 36-year-old female lawyer named Adaobi Nweke, her mother, her boyfriend, other family members, and their herbalist.

The operation, conducted around 11 pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 23 Arochukwu Street, Umuahia, led to the discovery of various illicit substances such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, loud, cannabis sativa, and precursor chemicals. These substances, totaling 1.670kg in weight, were part of an illegal drug business allegedly passed down to Adaobi Nweke by her late father.

The arrested individuals include Adaobi Nweke, her boyfriend Emeka Nkemefola, her mother Mrs. Ngozi Nweke, the family’s herbalist Dike Okpara, as well as Chukwudi Abel, Amarachi Paul, and their 22-year-old salesgirl Blessing Jonathan.

In addition to the arrests in Abia State, the NDLEA made other significant arrests across Nigeria. In Abuja, a 25-year-old Uber driver named Joshua Henry was intercepted while attempting to deliver 26.2 grams of loud to a customer in Keffi, Nasarawa state.

In Kano State, 54-year-old Dada Adedara was arrested with 468 blocks of cannabis weighing 246.4kg, while in OgunStatee, Kafayat Junaid and Sakirat Osoanu were arrested with 13kg of cannabis sativa.

In Kogi state, Charles Chike, 45, was arrested in a hotel in Lokoja with 290 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 116kg.

Furthermore, NDLEA operatives recovered 227kg of cannabis from Atoshi camp, Emure-Ile, Owo LGA, Ondo State, and arrested two suspects, John Jonathan and Emmanuel Alex.

These arrests reflect the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illicit substance abuse in Nigeria. The agency continues to work tirelessly to rid the country of drug-related crimes and their harmful effects on society.
