Buhari’s Ex Aide, Others Slams Peter Obi for Breaking Ramadan Fast With Muslims in Nasarawa

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, recently found himself at the center of a heated debate following his participation in a Ramadan fast-breaking event with Muslim faithful in Nasarawa State.

On a serene Monday evening, Peter Obi, accompanied by his team, visited the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque to partake in the breaking of the Ramadan fast with Muslims. This gesture was part of a broader visit to Lafia, Nasarawa State, where Obi also met with the Emir of Lafia and the state governor, highlighting his respect and support for the community.

Obi’s involvement in the event was not just a matter of formality but a sincere expression of solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan. He described the act as a symbol of unity and cooperation, extending his courtesy and feeding around 1000 individuals at the mosque.

However, this action has not been universally lauded. Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, among others, criticized Obi’s participation, calling it “eye service” and a calculated political maneuver ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Ahmad accused Obi of engaging in political drama, doubting the sincerity of his gesture and forecasting it as part of a failed political strategy.

Similarly, various social media users and public figures have expressed skepticism about Obi’s motivations. Some have compared his actions to those of other politicians who have made similar gestures in the past but failed to secure widespread support. Critics argue that such moves come off as desperate attempts to win over the electorate, questioning the authenticity of Obi’s outreach.
