Updated: How Nollywood Veteran Chiwetalu Agu Uses Wisdom to Defend Self in the Barracks

Nollywood Veteran actor Elder Chiwetalu Agu has regained freedom from the military custody following his arrest and detention on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Upper Iweka axis Onitsha, Anambra state.

He was released on Friday afternoon after responding to queries from the military for allegedly putting on Biafra regalia in public.

Sources gathered that Nigeria military accused Chiwetalu Agu of allegedly showing solidarity with the proscribed indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, and at the same time, inciting the public.

Meanwhile in a clip of Elder Agu at the barracks, he said that the insignia on the regalia represents the rising sun and not ESN nor the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.

He further told them that he was busy distributing a ten thousand naira worth of bread to the less privileged at the spot close to where his vehicle was packed when the soldiers came in a commando style and whisk him to the barracks.

Agu however maintained that he was not in public to cause uproar or campaign for the Indigenous People of Biafra but on a task to helping the less privileged

He insisted that on no occasion did he commit any offense that could warrant his harassment and arrest being an educated elder that he knows the limit of his rights.

” I was busy distributing a ten thousand naira worth of bread to the less privileged at the axis very close to where I packed my car when they. I didn’t do anything to have attracted the soldiers”.

” What I am putting on is just an ordinary regalia like every other clothes. What the inscription on my clothes represents is rising sun. Rising sun and not ESN or the IPOB”.

“Is it a crime to be sharing bread to the less privileged? I was only distributing a ten thousand naira worth of bread to people. I was campaigning or inciting people”. He said.

It would be recalled that the incident which happened barely 24hours ago had attracted many reactions following the viral video on the social media platforms.

Several Nollywood actors and fans have taken to their various social media handle to condemn the arrest and seek the immediate release of Mazi Chiwetalu Agu.

Also, the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, and lovers and well-wishers across the globe had their attention drawn to the development.

Consequently, some concerned citizens have described the situation as uncalled for and admonished the Nigeria military not to escalate the tensions in the region through similar incidents.

However, others blamed Mazi Chiwetalu Agu for his actions with regards to the already security threats in the state.
