Lagos Boat Accident Claims Two, Injures Scores

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has reported a fatal boat accident under the Ikoyi-link bridge in the Ikoyi area, resulting in the loss of two lives.

The incident, which occurred near the powerline, involved a boat ferrying 17 passengers from landfill to Ikorodu.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed the news on Thursday, affirming that the agency’s swift response led to the rescue of 15 passengers

Investigations revealed that the accident was caused when the boat’s driver collided with a submerged high-tension pole, leading to the capsizing of the vessel.

Consequently, an adult male and female were confirmed dead following the accident, with the female victim’s body being recovered from the water and transported to LASWA’s head office at Falomo, where she was declared deceased by LRU paramedics.

Efforts to locate the male victim’s body are ongoing, with multiple emergency response teams, including LASEMA, LRU Paramedics, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
