Kwara Abduction: Police Arrest 13, Rescue Wife of Slain Monarch, Teen

In a commendable display of collaboration and determination, the Kwara State Police Command has successfully secured the freedom of the abducted wife of the late Olukoro of Koro, Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, who was tragically murdered at his residence in Ekiti local government area of the state.

The operation, which occurred following the distressing incident of last Thursday, also saw the release of a young girl taken during the same incident.

Our correspondent gathered that the breakthrough was the result of a concerted effort involving various security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, as well as local vigilantes and hunters, who meticulously searched the forests and boundary regions surrounding the town, showcasing an exemplary partnership in the face of adversity.

Reacting to the development, the state police command, through its spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Kwara.

DSP Adeyemi maintained that the successful rescue operation not only brought a measure of relief to the affected families but also served as a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative security efforts in combating crime and ensuring justice.

Consequently, the Kwara State community, though, still mourning the loss of their beloved monarch, can take solace in the swift actions of their protectors, who have worked tirelessly to bring about a positive outcome amidst the darkness of this tragedy.

DSP Adeyemi also disclosed that the police force, under the guidance of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, left no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice, while citing that the operation was bolstered by the strategic deployment of a police helicopter, enhancing the search efforts through aerial surveillance that covered the expansive forested area between Kwara and neighboring Ekiti State.

He stated that as part of the ongoing investigation into the heinous assassination of Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole on February 1, 2024, authorities have made significant progress, leading to the arrest of 13 suspects including a businessman alongside twelve other individuals, a critical step forward in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
