Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, Reportedly Abducted

Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) branch, has been kidnapped.

The incident occurred on Friday, soon after Aziegbemi had a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in Benin City. The news has yet to prompt an official response from the state police, but the Edo State Government acknowledged the situation on Saturday.

According to a statement released by Hon. Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, the state is actively working to ensure Aziegbemi’s safe return. Efforts to secure his release are being coordinated with security agencies, reflecting the gravity of the situation. Nehikhare described the kidnapping as “unfortunate” and assured the public of the government’s dedication to Aziegbemi’s recovery.

In response to this alarming event, the Edo State Government has heightened surveillance and security across the state. These measures aim to suppress criminal activities and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those involved in such acts. Nehikhare urged the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear, emphasizing the importance of reporting any suspicious behavior through the state’s emergency numbers, 112 or 739.

The commitment of the Edo State Government to the safety and security of its residents was strongly reaffirmed in Nehikhare’s message. He stated that the government would spare no resource in its pursuit of justice for the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

The Edo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor, indicated that an official statement regarding the incident would be forthcoming. However, there has been no confirmation or denial of the kidnapping at this time.
