BREAKING: Lagos Issues Ultimatum, Implements Full Enforcement of Styrofoam Ban

The Lagos State government is set to intensify its crackdown on styrofoam usage, with full enforcement of the ban scheduled to begin on Monday.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, during a meeting with market leaders in the state.

The enforcement will be carried out by officers from LAGESC/KAI, Environmental Health Officials, LAWMA Police, and the Ministry, who will confiscate styrofoams found in shops, stores, or outlets.

Wahab stressed the adverse health and environmental effects of styrofoam usage, stating that the government is committed to promoting viable alternatives for styrofoam containers in the city.

He also urged market leaders to prioritize cleanliness, emphasizing that a clean environment is crucial. The government’s concern over unsanitary conditions in markets has recently led to the closure of some markets in the state.

The move to ban styrofoam aligns with global efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental sustainability.
