Theeditorngr.com reports that Kanu, who is the director of Radio Biafra and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is agitation for the Republic of Biafra. His group, the IPOB which is also seeking to break away from Nigeria had since been proscribed by the Federal Government.
The IPOB leader quoted a report with the headline: “Senate begins constitutional amendment, calls for memoranda” published by a Nigerian online news platform and stressed in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, that the only thing he wants from the Nigerian government is a “referendum on Biafra“.

According to the report, the Nigerian Senate commenced the process of amending the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), requesting for memoranda and proposals from Nigerians and interest groups on Thursday. The development was contained in a statement by the Deputy President of the Senate and chairman Ad-hoc committee on the review, Ovie Omo-Agege on Thursday.

The statement, the Senate committee welcomes proposals that would promote good governance and welfare of all persons in the country, especially on the principles of freedom, Equality and Justice.
According to the statement: “The Committee requests the general public, Executive and Judicial bodies, Civil Society Organizations, Professional bodies and other interest groups to submit memoranda or proposals for further alteration(s) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).

“Proposals can be on the under listed matters and on any other matter that will promote good governance and welfare of all persons in our country on the principles of freedom, Equality and Justice,” the statement said.

Reacting to the report, Nnamdi Kanu tweeted: “Now that Nigeria’s National Assembly is calling for Memoranda on Constitutional amendment, let it be known that REFERENDUM on #Biafra is the ONLY submission we make. Nothing more, nothing less. Granted or not, Biafra shall come by other means … Soon!”
