As you celebrate Christmas ensure you maintain these safety measures.
The holiday season is well and truly upon us. It’s easy to get caught up in the festivities, and while you’re busy decorating the house and tree, safety may not be the first thing on your mind. To ensure you have a safe and happy Christmas, we have written 12 days Tips of Christmas Safety:
- Covid 19 is still the talk of the Town so make sure you maintain social distance and gathering. You might be hearing of how the second wave of the pandemic might be deadlier than the first outbreak.
- When putting your tree up, whether this is a real or fake tree, place it away from all sources of heat. (Did you know during the Christmas period approx. 1000 people will visit an A&E in the UK after accidents in the home involving Christmas trees)
- Don’t forget to replenish the water for your Christmas tree (if you have a live one) every few days.
- Carefully inspect your Christmas light each year and discard any with frayed cords, cracked lamp holders, or loose connections. Unplug your lights before attempting to change a bulb. (Did you know fairy lights may be the cause of up to 20 fires each year)
- Do not overload plug sockets.
- Always switch Christmas lights off and unplug them before you go to bed.
- Never place candle near or on your Christmas tree or furnishings and don’t leave them burning unattended.
- When the weather outside is frightful, heat your home safely. Never leave portable heaters or fireplaces unattended and check your fire alarms.
- Do not drink and drive. If you plan on drinking at your works Christmas do or when visiting family members and friends, arrange to have a designated driver or taxi take you home.
- If you’re buying toys for children, make sure they are age appropriate. Quite often, toys for older children have small parts that can create a choking hazard.
- Set aside plenty of time for cooking your Christmas Dinner. Too many cooks rushing around the kitchen can lead to burns and cuts.
- Have scissors handy to open packaging, so you are not tempted to use a knife, and a screwdriver ready to assemble toys and gadgets.
- This Christmas take the time to check on elderly relatives and neighbours to ensure they are safe and well.
