Abia State Police Bust Baby Factory, Rescue Victims

Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have busted a baby factory in Aba and rescued 16 pregnant inmates.

The police operation, carried out on a Thursday evening, resulted in the rescue of 16 pregnant women and eight infants, comprising five males and three females.

The raid was initiated following actionable intelligence provided by concerned locals, leading to a thorough investigation and subsequent operation by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). According to an RRS operative, the team targeted a compound containing a four-storey building with 10 flats, where they discovered the victims and arrested two facilitators, one of whom was also pregnant.

The operation comes at a significant time as the state commemorates International Women’s Day, highlighting the plight of women and girls caught in the web of exploitation.
The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ogechi Oguama, expressed both relief and concern at the rescue.

She assured the public that the rescued women and children would be taken into good custody while the investigation continues.

The state government, through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, Ferdinand Ekeoma, commended the police and other security agencies for their professionalism and commitment to eradicating this menace from the state.
