Reactions as Power Outages Sweep Across Nigeria Following Another National Grid Failure

In a recent turn of events that has left many Nigerians struggling with the discomfort of power outages, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disclosed a national grid failure.

The incident occurred on March 28, 2024, at approximately 4:28 pm, marking another hiccup in Nigeria’s electricity supply chain.

The AEDC conveyed this development to its clientele, stressing the impact of the grid collapse on the widespread service interruption across its service areas. Through an announcement made on social media, the company extended its request for customer patience, stating, “We wish to inform our esteemed customers that the ongoing power outage stems from a system malfunction within the national grid. This unexpected collapse at around 16:28 hours today has led to the current power disruptions throughout our franchise territories.”

In a bid to reassure its customers, the AEDC emphasized the concerted efforts by all parties involved to restore electricity supply promptly. “We kindly ask for your understanding as every stakeholder is diligently working towards reinstating normal service.

Echoing the sentiments of the AEDC, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company also acknowledged the grid collapse, which has resulted in a comprehensive loss of power across its network. The company assured its customers of ongoing efforts to expedite the grid’s recovery, promising timely updates on the restoration process.

This is not the first instance of grid failures in Nigeria; the national power grid, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has encountered similar challenges in the past. A report by SaharaReporters in February highlighted the grid’s initial collapse in 2024, underscoring a recurring dilemma in the nation’s power sector. Between 2017 and 2022, the TCN reported a total of 46 grid collapses, with a year-by-year breakdown revealing a fluctuating yet persistent issue.
