President Tinubu Cancels 72nd Birthday Celebration Over Economic Hardship, Urges Donations to Charity

President Tinubu has announced his decision to forego any celebrations for his upcoming 72nd birthday on March 29, 2024, citing the current economic challenges facing the nation.

Through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed his desire for friends, associates, and well-wishers to refrain from organizing celebratory events in his honor.

Marking another year as a distinguished leader and statesman, President Tinubu has chosen to stand in solidarity with Nigerians during these tough times. The statement highlighted that, although birthdays are typically occasions for joyous gatherings and public commendations, the President is acutely aware of the nation’s mood, especially in light of recent attacks on security forces in Delta State and the surge in criminal activities across the country.

President Tinubu’s decision is also influenced by his respect for the bravery displayed by the armed forces in recent rescue operations in Kaduna and Sokoto states. However, he believes that the current situation calls for reflection and a commitment to the continued development of a secure, vibrant, and unified Nigeria, rather than personal celebrations.

The President has therefore made a heartfelt request to his associates and supporters: instead of spending on birthday festivities or placing goodwill messages in media outlets, they should consider donating to charity organizations. By redirecting these funds to those in need, President Tinubu hopes to foster a spirit of compassion and collective responsibility among Nigerians.
