EFCC Refutes Claims of Releasing List of Ex-Governors Suspected of Money Embezzlement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims circulating in the media about releasing a list of former governors implicated in a corruption probe involving a staggering N2.187 trillion.

According to Mr. Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity for the EFCC, the reports suggesting that the commission released a list titled “EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion” are not only untrue but also misleading. Mr. Oyewale emphasized that the EFCC has not issued any such list and has not discussed any ongoing investigations into former governors with the media.

The so-called list, as it turns out, is a complete fabrication by unknown entities with unclear motives. The EFCC’s statement is a clear call to the public to disregard these false reports and underscores the importance of verifying news related to sensitive investigations.

The EFCC also advised the media to exercise due diligence in fact-checking with the Commission before publishing reports on investigative matters to prevent the spread of misinformation.

For more accurate and verified updates on ongoing investigations and other news, the public and media outlets are encouraged to consult directly with the EFCC.
