Amidst the growing Secessionists’ agitations resulting in a state of uncertainties, rising insecurity, extrajudicial killings and loss of properties in the states across the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, the Chairman Odimma Anambra Foundation OAF, Ambassador Celestine U. Anadi has called on the South East Governors to declare May 30 a public holiday in the whole of the region.

Amb Anadi made the call following the recent sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu which resulted in palpable tension over the state of insecurity in the region and the country at large.

He said, “Meanwhile, the Biafra heroes’ day (May 30th) is mapped out by the people of the known defunct republic of Biafra to commemorate the May 30, 1967-1970 incident of civil war that claimed millions of Biafrans and properties, there is an urgent need for the State governors of the region to as one of the means to proffering solutions to insecurity in the South East, specially acknowledge the day in the honour of the fallen heroes”.

He affirmed though, the war was called off, it didn’t end as the aftermaths have ever since the incident continued to manifest in the state of affairs in the nation, which led to the reinvented agitations for the sovereign state of Biafra.

The Chairman also noted that for practical adjudication of Justice, equity, fairness and intelligence to be reinjected, the South East governors should as a matter of importance, acknowledge the 30th of May in respect of the fallen heroes of Biafra.

Amb Anadi further maintained that if June 12 should be declared a public holiday in memory of MK Abiola, 30th May ought to be immortalized too.

“30th May and IPOB Sit-at home order, a call for the South East governors to declare May 30 a work-free day”.

“I believe that it is high time the South East governors forum declared 30th May a work-free day to enable the people to honour their loved ones who lost their lives during the Biafra Pogrom”.

“This would reduce tensions and douse the loggerhead between the IPOB and the government. It would also enable the government to take a proper response to the issues confronting the region rather than aggravating the situation over the sit-at-home order”.

” Since the federal government could declare June 12 a public holiday in the honour of MK Abiola, the South East governors forum should pass a law through the state house of Assembly, declaring May 30 a work-free day, to enable the people to honour their loved ones who lost their lives in the 1967-1970 civil war in Nigeria”.

” It is a right thing to be done that in the same way the South East governors formed Ebubeagu with regards to the security situation in the region, even after the unveiling of the Eastern Security Network ESN, by IPOB, should declare 30th May a public holiday, to eradicate tensions that usually engulf the region during the commemoration by IPOB, MASSOB and other pro-Biafran groups”.
