Justification Behind Nkem Okeke’s Defection.

News that occupied the media about two days ago was about the defection of the incumbent deputy governor of Anambra state, HE Nkem Okeke.

Ha was said to have defected to All Progressive Congress, APC. He was also reported to have met the President of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari who welcomed him to the party.

Though the news officially came recently, it has always been rumoured that he had perfected plans to flip-flop.

In the rumour, he was said to have been meeting clandestinely with some stakeholders of APC who have made some juicy promise to him in a bid to lure him to the party.

They were also said to have capitalized on the apparent cold relationship between him and the governor, HE Willi Obiano.

A careful observer would have noticed how the deputy governor has been sidelined in almost all aspects of governance. He has been embarrassingly subjugated that one forgot there any position of such exists in the state.

Few months ago, the alleged assault by the first lady of the state on the deputy governor infiltrated into the media. It was very sour that most people outrightly condemned it.

In all these, everyone has been expecting him to speak up. But he appeared to maintain golden silence.

Also recently, he was rumoured to have picked interest to run for the governorship position in the state under APGA which the party hierachy frowned at.

In all these, one thing stands out—his relationship with the governor and the party has been strained. His interests have not been met and finding a new party seemed to be his only option.
