BREAKING: Adamawa State Govt Announces Outbreak of Deadly Disease on NYSC Camp

In a recent announcement by the Adamawa State Ministry of Health and Human Services, a worrying outbreak of Lassa Fever has emerged within the state, particularly affecting the Damare National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp.

This alarming development came to light following the diagnosis of a corps member who exhibited symptoms akin to the notorious fever, subsequently confirmed through testing by the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) in Abuja.

Zirra Mathias Bubanani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, has confirmed the situation, emphasizing the state’s immediate response involving rigorous contact tracing and isolation measures to curb further spread. With the health and safety of the public in mind, Bubanani has issued an appeal for heightened vigilance regarding hygiene and sanitation practices. He highlighted the importance of secure food storage to deter rat infestations, a known vector of the Lassa virus.

The public is encouraged to be proactive in reporting any individuals showing symptoms indicative of Lassa fever to local health authorities, ensuring swift action can be taken. Despite the understandable concern this outbreak may cause, the Ministry assures the public of its dedication to controlling the situation.
Under the guidance of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and in collaboration with local health facilities, agencies, and partners, concerted efforts are being made to prevent further cases of the disease.
