Popular Nigerian Pastor, Abel Damina Gives Shocking Porn Addiction Remedy, Sparks Reactions

Dr. Abel Damina, a well-known Nigerian pastor and head of Abel Damina Ministries International, recently faced criticism from conservative Christian circles following his unconventional advice on combating pornography addiction.

This controversial stance came to light during his appearance on Comfort FM’s Righteous Invasion of Truth (RIOT) program in Uyo, where he suggested that those struggling with porn addiction should not cease watching it but instead increase their exposure to the word of God concurrently.

Damina’s method advises that if a person watches pornography for an hour, they should then dedicate three to four hours to listening to or reading the word of God. He believes that over time, this approach will naturally diminish the individual’s appetite for pornography as their desire for spiritual nourishment grows. He assured his listeners that this would lead to a genuine aversion to pornography, replaced by a healthier craving for religious content.

However, his comments have stirred a considerable backlash on social media, particularly among more traditional Christian groups. Critics argue that Damina’s guidance seemingly condones sin under the guise of treatment, with many citing scriptural mandates to flee from all appearances of evil. Opposing voices, such as Pastor Gideon Odoma from Fortress Ministry and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, have openly rebuked Damina’s statements, labeling pornography as a sinful perversion that should be avoided outright.

In contrast, some supporters of Damina’s approach, like Pastor Oge from Circle Church, defend the notion, suggesting that conventional methods of dealing with addiction through avoidance and abstinence might not be effective for everyone. Oge shared his personal struggles with pornography, stating that replacing one’s desire for porn with something else, as suggested by a therapist, was an approach that resonated more with him, aligning closely with Damina’s controversial advice.
