Nigeria Varsity Student Allegedly Takes Her Own Life in Hotel Room— Police

It was a disheartening moment at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, as a 400-level student, Adaeze Jaja allegedly ended her own life.

According to the police, Adaeze Jaja allegedly consumed sniper insecticide in a hotel room.

The police further report that the 31-year-old was discovered unconscious and foaming at the mouth, with an empty sniper bottle next to hethe in Be-Happy Hotel’s room.

The incident was initially spotted by a hotel employee, Abebayo, who then informed the hotel’s Director, Oduniyi Adelaja, early on January 27.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, reported that the hotel’s Director, Adelaja, alerted the Ago-Iwoye Divisional Police Officer about the situation around 7:30 a.m. on January 27.

Odutola detailed that the hotel director learned from employee Adebayo Israel that Jaja was found in a dire state, lying in a freezer. Following the discovery, she was rushed to Best Care Hospital and subsequently moved to Love and Care Hospital in Ago-Iwoye, where she was pronounced dead.

The police spokesperson mentioned that authorities had examined the location, securing the sniper bottle, and Jaja’s body had been sent to the OOU Teaching Hospital for post-mortem analysis.

Odutola further stated that an in-depth investigation into the matter had been initiated by the Divisional Crime Branch (DCB), and the university administration had been informed of the tragic event.
