Updates: Gunmen Invade Mosque in Nigeria, Abduct Over 30 Worshipers

In a sorrowful incident that has shaken the community of Tsafe in Zamfara State, more than 30 individuals were forcefully taken by terrorists from a local mosque.

This sad event occurred during the early hours of Thursday, as residents of Tsafe town, which serves as the seat of Tsafe Local Government Area, gathered for the dawn prayer, Subhi, around 5 am.

Eyewitnesses describe a scene of chaos and fear as the attackers, identified as bandits, abruptly invaded the mosque.

One of the survivors, identified only as Garba, recounted the terrifying moments when the assailants stormed in just as the prayers were about to commence. “We were on the verge of starting our morning prayers when they barged into the mosque, demanding everyone to exit and follow them,” Garba shared with the press.

In a desperate bid for safety, worshippers scrambled in different directions, but the bandits were quick to encircle the mosque, threatening to kill anyone attempting to escape. However, Garba managed to elude capture by jumping out of a window and hiding in a nearby uncompleted building.

According to him, the terrorists had strategically left their motorcycles at a distance to approach the mosque on foot, thereby avoiding early detection by the townspeople. After herding the worshippers outside, they were marched to the motorcycles and taken to an undisclosed location in the forest.

The actual number of victims might exceed the initial count of 30, given that the mosque was filled to capacity at the attack. Very few managed to escape the horrifying ordeal, shedding light on the severity and boldness of the attack.
