ISWAP’s statement detailed the attack, revealing their use of a variety of weapons to overwhelm the military personnel stationed at the base in Gujba, within the Gujba Local Government Area. The group boasted of killing a soldier, forcing others to flee, setting ablaze two military operational vehicles, and capturing heavy and medium machine guns along with ammunition.

This incident emphasizes the persistent threat posed by ISWAP in the region, especially in the wake of Abubakar Shekau’s death, the former leader of Boko Haram. Since Shekau’s demise, ISWAP has been on a mission to consolidate its influence around Lake Chad, with an increasing number of Boko Haram fighters joining its rank.
