Nigerian Police Nabs Suspects For Ambushing, Killing Officers in Delta State

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a development in the investigation of an incident that resulted in the murder of six of its personnel in Delta State, located in the South-South region of Nigeria.

The tragic event unfolded in two separate ambushes, with the first taking place on February 23, 2023, and the second just days later, on February 26, 2023. The officers, who were part of a mission to protect and serve the local community, encountered their demise in a shocking display of violence.

The initial incident in January involved the abduction of three mobile police officers from a team of six, who were responding to a distress call near the Ohoro community in the Ughelli North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. They were stationed at a checkpoint along the Ughelli-Patani road when they were taken. In an attempt to rescue their colleagues, a subsequent team was dispatched, only to be ambushed and killed in the surrounding Ohoro forest area.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on a recent Saturday, it was confirmed that eight individuals have been arrested in connection to these brutal attacks. The suspects were apprehended following diligent investigative efforts, with five initially taken into custody shortly after the incidents and three more located and arrested at various locations based on information provided by the earlier detainees.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed profound sorrow over the loss of their officers, extending their thoughts and prayers to the families affected by this tragedy. They reiterated their resolve in ensuring that the perpetrators behind this, and similar crimes, are held accountable for their actions, emphasizing that such heinous acts against peacekeepers shall not go unpunished.
