Nigerian Instagram, Facebook Content Creators to Have Monetization Features by June

Meta Platforms Incorporated, the tech conglomerate behind popular social media apps like Instagram and Facebook, has announced a surprising update for Nigerian content creators. Starting from June 2024, Nigerian creators will be able to monetize their content on these platforms.

This announcement was made during a visit by Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, and his team to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

In a move that aims to empower creators and encourage the production of engaging content, Meta will roll out new monetization features on Instagram. This initiative not only offers a new avenue for creators to earn from their passion but also aligns with Meta’s vision of supporting the creative community. Sir Clegg expressed gratitude towards President Tinubu for facilitating a Meta-backed deep-sea cable project, expected to significantly boost connectivity and economic activity across Africa.

Described as an “extraordinary infrastructure project,” the deep-sea cable is set to be operational in the first quarter of 2025. With capabilities far surpassing existing subsea cables, it promises to double the continent’s connectivity capacity. This cable is not just about enhanced internet access; it’s anticipated to inject up to 37 billion dollars into the African economy over the next few years, showcasing the tangible benefits of digital infrastructure development.

President Tinubu, on his part, emphasized Nigeria’s openness to business and technological advancements, particularly in nurturing a future powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). With a vibrant and talented youth demographic, Nigeria is poised to lead in digital technology on the African continent.

President Tinubu’s vision is clear: to prepare the Nigerian youth for global economic participation and foster collaborations that benefit all parties involved.
