Labour Party Secures 2027 Presidential Ticket for Peter Obi, Reaffirms Support for Governor Otti

The Labour Party has announced its decision to reserve its 2027 presidential ticket for Peter Obi, alongside endorsing Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for the gubernatorial ticket in the same year.

This decision comes on the heels of the party’s national convention, which took place at the Grand Seasons Hotel in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has been recognized for his remarkable contributions and leadership. Despite finishing third in the 2023 presidential election, Obi’s impact and the substantial following he garnered have led the party to reserve its next presidential ticket exclusively for him. This early endorsement underscores the party’s confidence in Obi’s vision and leadership qualities.

Similarly, Dr. Alex Otti, the current Governor of Abia State, has received a vote of confidence from the party for his ongoing efforts and achievements in office. Recognizing his performance, the Labour Party has decided to reserve the 2027 gubernatorial ticket for him, a testament to the party’s satisfaction with his governance.

The Labour Party’s national convention, which facilitated these crucial decisions, was a gathering of party leaders and members from various levels, including the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, and representatives from the legislative and executive branches at both the national and state levels. The convention was also attended by Peter Obi, trade union congress members, and journalists, marking a pivotal moment for the party as it plans its future course.

These endorsements come amid internal challenges, notably the re-election of Julius Abure as the National Chairman amid corruption allegations and criticism of his leadership style. Despite these controversies, the convention’s decisions reflect the party’s determination to solidify its vision and strategy for the upcoming elections.
