REVEALED: How EFCC Intercepts 21 Food-filled Trucks Heading For Cameroon, Other Neighboring Countries

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Maiduguri, Nigeria, successfully intercepted 21 trucks loaded with both food and non-food items.

The operation took place on Tuesday, as part of a dedicated effort by the EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Command to curb smuggling activities that exacerbate food scarcity issues within the nation.

The trucks, discovered during a meticulously planned sting operation along the Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State, were found to be heading toward destinations outside Nigeria, including N’djamena in Chad Republic, the Central African Republic, and Cameroon.

This interception highlights the persistent issue of smuggling that not only threatens food security but also impacts the economy negatively.

Upon closer inspection, EFCC operatives revealed that food items were ingeniously concealed among the loads, a tactic devised by smugglers to evade detection.

However, thanks to the vigilance and expertise of the commission’s operatives, the scheme was uncovered. Documentation for the goods, such as Waybills, indicated that the trucks were intended for N’djamena, Chad Republic, the Central Africa Republic, and Cameroon, confirming their cross-border destinations.

The EFCC’s action in seizing these trucks is a strategic move to mitigate the challenges of food insecurity that plague the country, a situation often worsened by the illicit activities of smugglers. The individuals arrested in connection with the trucks are currently undergoing profiling and will face legal proceedings upon the conclusion of the investigations.
