Access Holdings Appoints New CEO After Demise of Wigwe

Access Holdings Plc has revealed the appointment of Ms. Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer.

This poignant decision announced Monday, is a sequel to the untimely passing of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

Late Dr. Wigwe reportedly lost his life in a helicopter crash alongside his wife, son, and former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, on Friday.

The company’s Board of Directors, in a statement dated February 12, 2024, emphasized that Agbede’s appointment is contingent upon the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria, underlining the regulatory aspect of the transition n.Ms. Agbede brings nearly three decades of professional experience to her new role, spanning banking and business consultancy services.

Having commenced her journey with Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General, she has ascended through various positions within the organization. Notably, she served as the Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022 before assuming the role of the company’s founding Executive Director, Business Support, in 2022—a position she held until her recent appointment. Her academic credentials further underscore her preparedness for this pivotal role, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos and a master of Business Administration Degree from Cranfield University UK in 2002.
