Things Fall Apart in Katsina as Terrorists Wreck Havocs on Communities, Kill Scores, Injure Others
Katsina State in North-West Nigeria has been thrust into turmoil as terrorists wreak havoc across several communities.
Reports confirm that a trio of villages within the Kurfi Local Government Area have been devastated in recent banditry raids, resulting in the tragic loss of five lives and the destruction of property, including a local police station.
The affected communities, now deserted, saw their residents fleeing for safety, leaving behind their homes and belongings.
In the wake of these attacks, displaced villagers have sought refuge in neighboring areas, voicing their pleas for the reinstatement of peace and security through a peaceful protest last Friday.
Eyewitness accounts from Wurma village paint a horrifying picture of the assault, where gunmen launched an unexpected attack around 6:30 pm, leading to a chaotic scramble for safety.
“They attacked and killed five heads of households. They also carted away valuables, prompting our people to protest,” shared one of the survivors, highlighting the dire situation faced by the community.
The relentless nature of these attacks has been confirmed by authorities, identifying Lambo and Guda villages as additional targets of the terrorists.
Nasir Babangida Ma’azu, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, acknowledged the increasing intensity of terrorist activities in the area, noting, “During the first raid, the bandits went from house-to-house hunting for those to kidnap. On their second visit, they burnt down the police station, forcing the residents to run for their lives.”
