This was disclosed via a press statement issued on Sunday, by the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.
This is happening following the ultimatum issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria for the return of the old naira notes to the bank on or before the 31st of January, 2023.
The Governor showed concern with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s policy on redesigned naira notes for security reasons.
The apex bank had in October last year said the old naira notes would seize to be legal tender from January 31.
The Governors have also observed that there are huge challenges that remain problematic for the Nigerian people.
“I am afraid that CBN’s January 31st deadline for depositing old notes will not work with such a kind of sharing.” He said
The video of the notes wows Nigerians as the masses are cautioned against the development, especially during the Yuletide commemoration
The current notes as earlier declared would continue to be accepted until the final date issued by the CBN.
“He wondered why such a project should be the priority of the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, instead of…”
“He said, this would enable them to beat the Jan. 31, 2023 deadline to dispose of the old notes.”
