The increase in the number of healthcare workers migrating to the UK is attributed to its cheap and easy entry migration conditions as the country faces a shortage of healthcare workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“About 51 healthcare workers have left the hospital since the beginning of 2023 when the committee visited the hospital for an oversight function to assess the level of healthcare delivery in the facility on Tuesday.” He said.
“When the Buhari administration assumed office in 2015, the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, reported that Nigeria had 35,000 doctors out of the 237,000 required to serve a population of about 180 million then. Over seven years later, the number of doctors available in our health system dropped to 24,000 while the population rose to an estimated 211 million.”
“The training program came just as WHO stated that the flooding situation in the country had become overwhelming with 3,219,780 affected persons, 1,427,370 displaced persons, 2,776 injured, 612 deaths, and 305,407 houses damaged.”
