Rivers: Wike Reacts to Alleged Plan to Join APC

Following the recent developments in the polity where the former governor under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State played a vital role, there are assertions that the leader of the popular group of five governors (G-5), has placed his cards towards joining the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.

Wike among other politicians recently declared their support for the removal of the fuel subsidy announced by the President of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his inaugural address on the 29th of May 2023.

This was a sequel to the news where Wike, along with Seyi Makinde and James Ibori, met with Tinubu to offer him support, four days after he was sworn in as the president of Nigeria.

Consequently, Nyesom Wike has reacted to the rumours that he is planning to switch from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress after meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Friday.

Wike, a chieftain of the PDP, dismissed rumours that he was planning to join the APC and denied that switching to the APC was on the agenda of the meeting.

When asked by State House correspondents if switching to the APC was on the agenda of the meeting he had, Wike replied: “No. No plans. Nothing like that in the offing.

“We are Nigerians and we have come to give the president support.

“That is what is required. There is no big deal about that.”
