Palpable Tensions in Edo as Mob Allegedly Beat Two Policemen to Death

Two policemen on escort duty have been beaten to death, and two others injured following a mob action at Ikpeshi in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident occurred when a Toyota Hilux, part of a convoy escorting a former member of the Edo House of Assembly, Emmanuel Agbaje, collided with a motorcycle, claiming the lives of the rider, a woman, and her child.

The incident ignited outrage among the youth of the Ikpeshi community, who, in their grief and anger, retaliated by attacking the policemen involved.

The mob’s fury resulted in the death of two officers who were part of the escort duty, while two of their colleagues sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the injured policemen were fortunately rescued by operatives from the Edo State Vigilante Network and are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital within the state.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor. He revealed that the policemen were members of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
