The Minister also knocked the embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom for issuing security warnings about possible terrorist attacks on Abuja, the nation’s federal capital territory.

He said such unguarded statements are capable of disrupting the peace and tranquility of Nigeria and urged foreign countries to always seek clarification on such important national issues.

He added that misinformation should be guided against at all levels as it can cause bigger problems.

Naija News reports Mohammed who spoke in Abuja at the ministerial panel of the ongoing UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week also blamed local media and social media users in Nigeria for spreading the information without weighing the consequences or seeking clarification from the government.

The Summit, which has the theme: ‘The Future of Vaccine and Bio-Health’, is jointly been hosted by the South Korean Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has asked Nigerians to reject any presidential candidate that will turn governance into a family and friends business.

Speaking through the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, the former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians not to vote for anyone who will rule the country by proxy.

Naija News reports that Peter Obi was reacting to the challenge thrown to him by the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, for his son to organize a campaign rally in his state like the APC flag bearer’s son, Seyi Tinubu, did for his father in Lagos.

Peter Obi’s campaign, in a statement on Tuesday, said the only thing that joins him and Tinubu is that they were once governors of states in Nigeria, “after that one became a parasite to the state government he served with his entire family while the other left government house and he and any members of his family never collected a dime from Anambra state.”

The campaign said: “Unlike Tinubu and his household, who have grown to be stupendously wealthy with no identifiable industry or means of making money outside the state government for over two decades, Obi is not like that.

The Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday cleared the air on the transfer of the judges responsible for discharging the terrorism charges levelled against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Appellate court noted that the transfer of its twenty-one justices to various divisions in the country has nothing to do with Kanu’s case.

According to the Court of Appeal, the judges were transferred due to a routine exercise aimed at reinvigorating the justice delivery of the Court.

The Chief Registrar of the Court, Umar Mohammed Bangari, in a statement denied the report that the three Justices who discharged Kanu from the suit filed against him by Federal Government on October 13 were transferred.

Bangari disclosed that only one Justice out of the three that handled Kanu’s case was transferred.

The presiding Judge, Justice E A Obile on Tuesday nullified the primaries following the exclusion of party members from the delegate list.

7. Stop Taking Police Personnel To The Slaughterhouse In The Name Of VIP Protection – Retired AIG Warns

A retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Aisabor has urged the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to stop the attachment of its personnel to non-deserving persons in society.

This is as he lamented that many police operatives have lost their lives while acting as security guards for the so-called Very Important Persons (VIPs) in society.

According to Aisabor, those entitled to police security should be the presidency, the leadership of the National Assembly, Governors and their deputies, and most importantly the judiciary.

He said it is however unfortunate that the operatives are now deployed to the highest bidders in the society where many of them lose their lives during attacks.

The retired AIG urged the leadership of the Police Force to withdraw its personnel serving as VIP escorts so there can be sufficient manpower to tackle rising insecurity in many parts of the country.

He made the submission against the backdrop of the recent killing of policemen attached to the General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

The APC in a statement on Tuesday by the Director of Public Affairs and Chief Spokesperson, Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo said it is rather unfortunate that Obaseki is the one making outrageous statements ahead of the 2023 elections.

Naija News reports that the statement from Keyamo is a direct reaction to an earlier submission by Obaseki that Nigeria would break up if the APC is allowed to return to power in 2023 through the candidacy of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.

However, Keyamo in response said the Edo Governor who couldn’t stand and fight for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its presidential ticket to the south is now speaking against the ticket from the zone.

The APC campaign spokesperson added that Obaseki and the likes of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa not only sold their souls and their people in exchange for the Biblical pot of porridge to support the PDP ticket going to Atiku Abubakar but are also part of those wrongly pushing Atiku towards imploding the party and attempting to break up Nigeria for disrespecting the PDP zoning formula.

However, Naija News reports that the development has caused confusion among Mimiko’s loyalists, as they said they don’t understand what the position of Leader of the campaign Council means.

A loyalist of the former Ondo state governor, who pleaded anonymity was quoted by The Nation to have said Mimiko hasn’t given them any directive on whether or not they should join the Atiku campaign train.

The Labour Congress announced last week that it will be holding a NEC meeting in Kebbi state, of all the NLC-affiliated unions from the 36 states of the federation, union leaders and other stakeholders.

The party consequently set up a BoT Reconciliation Committee headed by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, to wade into the crisis between Wike and Ayu.

Fighters of the Islamic State In West Africa Province (ISWAP) has at the weekend attacked the enclaves of the Boko Haram, during which six of them were reportedly killed.

An Intelligence source told Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency expert and Security Analyst in Lake Chad, that the attackers also recovered five AK 47 riffles from the Boko Haram terrorists.

ISWAP had carried out many successful attacks against Boko Haram terrorists in its sustained feuds, which caused the group a huge casualty and loss of war assets.

The worsening inter-rivalry clashes, between jihadist groups, may lead them to irreversible self-destruction as the revolting ISWAP had vowed to battle more with members of its former main body than even with the Nigerian troops.

The Court of Appeal had, in its judgment reversed the July 7 judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja which voided the nomination of Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori.

Oborevwori came first in the party’s governorship primary held on May 25, but Edevbie challenged Oborevwori’s nomination, claiming that he (Oborevwori) submitted false documents to the PDP, by virtue of which he ought not to be allowed to participate in the primary.

According to the CUPP Chairman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who spoke on behalf of the opposition parties, the coalition had also discovered fresh plots to deactivate the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) from being used in the election and ultimately stop the electronic transmission of results at the polls.

Making the announcement, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Kabiru Attahiru, who received members of the state’s Technical Team on Education in Emergencies today during their advocacy visit to the ministry, said the school reopening is classed into three categories.

Attahiru explained that all 75 schools fell into the Red group at the time of their closure as it was dangerous to allow them to remain open. The NEC meeting is expected to be held at the union’s headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Naija News had earlier reported that ASUU directed its zonal branches to collate the views of members through votes during meetings which will be held on Wednesday (tomorrow).

There had been reports online claiming that ASUU directed its members to resume academic activities on October 17.

A former Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen has knocked the decision of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike not to support the campaigns of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Iduoriyekemwen in his submission stated that Wike’s action is unbecoming of a leader and politician of his calibre, arguing that the Rivers Governor had made his stand known and should have left the stage when the ovation was loudest.

The Edo State politician added that the PDP has always given Wike the platform to actualize his political ambitions and the first time a ticket he wants would go to another person, the Governor wants to tear the party apart.

Wike and his loyalists including some state governors had vowed not to participate in Atiku’s presidential campaigns except Iyorchia Ayu resigns as the PDP national chairman.

They argued that Atiku’s emergence as the PDP flagbearer has put the major leadership positions in the north which negates the principle of justice and fairness.

However, asked about the development and how it would affect the fortunes of the PDP in 2023, Iduoriyekemwen during an interview with Punch blamed Wike for the crisis which he described as unnecessary.

He questioned Wike’s action saying it was probably because he lost the PDP presidential ticket.

He added during a chat with journalists in Kano State that Tinubu has the full support of Osinbajo in the race for the 2023 presidency.

According to Gaya who is now a member of the Tinubu campaign team the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari for Osinbajo to stay away from the political activities of the APC for 2023 and oversee the running of the government is why the Vice President has been relatively silent.

The lawmaker added that there is no form of division between Tinubu and Osinbajo.

The former military officer who was released from the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, Lagos, in July 2013 following his discharge and acquittal of a murder charge by the Court of Appeal, said he has never stolen money before, not even N10 but yet was treated like trash by some persons.

Naija News recalls that a death sentence was earlier passed on Al-Mustapha and Lateef Sofolahan, an aide to the late Kudirat Abiola. However, the appellate court sitting in Lagos upturned the sentence and the former military officer was released afterwards.

Speaking at an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm aired on Tuesday, Al-Mustapha said he faced torture for 15 years, yet he was found not guilty of the charges against him.

Al-Mustapha said contrary to the accusations against him, he (Al-Mustapha) refused to compromise despite what he described as the heat of pressure mounted on him by some persons.

Some of the infrastructural achievements that have earned Governor Wike the recognition for such an award include investments by his administration in projects in the healthcare, education, health, sports, and agriculture as well as the construction of twelve flyovers in the state.

Speaking during a TV interview, Orker-Jev said Ortom is trapped between a rock and a hard place as touching the crisis rocking the PDP.

He explained that the Benue Governor doesn’t want to go against the collective decision of the Governors and at the same time, can’t openly antagonize the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu who is from the same state as him.

The Senator said this on Channels TV’s Politics Today while speaking about the failure of Ortom and some other loyalists of Governor Nyesom Wike to attend the PDP presidential campaign flag-off in Akwa Ibom on Monday.

10. APC Campaign Council Denies Report Of Division In South-West Over Tinubu’s Candidacy

The Director of Media and Publicity for All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, has denied reports that there is a division in the South West over the candidacy of Bola Tinubu.

In a terse statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Onanuga described the report as false and a calculated attempt to cause disaffection in the South West.

He said Afenifere’s endorsement of Obi is a ruse and was done by one man who has no electoral value.

He said, “This story is not true. There is no division in the South-West over Tinubu’s candidacy. The Afenifere endorsement of LP’s candidate is a ruse. It was an endorsement by one man with no electoral value, either in his Ijebu Igbo village or Lagos.”

According to him, he believes in the ability of the team to mobilize and deliver victory for the APC at the polls but they need to understand the magnitude of the responsibility committed into their hands.

The President praised the role of women in the electoral process and charged them not to limit their efforts to Abuja but ensure their presence is felt in all the 774 local government areas of Nigeria.

Former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has declared his support for the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Biyi Otegbeye, in next year’s election.

Amosun announced his controversial decision despite his support for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.

The lawmaker disclosed that he would be supporting Tinubu in 2023, but would not support the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun who is the governorship candidate of the party.

There are indications that the relationship between Amosun and his political son, Adekunle Akinlade has gone sour.

Recall that Amosun in 2019 supported Akinlade who contested under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against Abiodun who eventually won the governorship election.

A further report has it that Akinlade fell out with Amosun following his decision to dump APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he got the deputy governor’s slot.

According to the statement by APC on Monday, Dogara is an unstable politician who is pained that he lost out to Shettima in the race to emerge as the party’s vice presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

Instead of attempting to cause further disaffection in the party, the APC statement issued by the Director, Media & Publicity of the Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga urged Dogara to accept defeat.

Naija News reports Onanuga was reacting to the outcome of a consultative meeting and dialogue between Northern APC Christian Leaders and Northern Muslim Political Leaders held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.

The meeting of the northern religious and political leaders was in line with the resolve of Christian leaders within the ruling camp, led by the immediate-past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal.

The political stakeholders are working with their Muslim counterparts in the North to adopt one of the presidential candidates in a bid to defeat the same-faith presidential ticket of the APC.

However, Onanuga said those at the meeting are not members of the APC but impostors hired by Dogara and his loyalists.

He claimed the attendees are opportunists and selfish people, not northern Christians as claimed.

He said this during a rally he organised in Lagos in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

MC Oluomo asserted that the Lekki shooting could not be linked to the former Governor of Lagos State, adding that the #EndSARS protest was used to smear Tinubu’s name.

Reacting in a statement by its spokesman, Adeyeye Olorunfemi, AAC slammed MC Oluomo for querying the whereabouts of the bodies of protesters purportedly killed by the Nigerian Army.

The party described MC Oluomo’s comment as unfortunate, adding that he should be arrested and questioned over his knowledge of the Lekki Massacre, which he claimed was a ‘political game.’

AAC, therefore, demanded that Akinsanya immediately withdraw his statement and apologise to all Nigerian youths for his careless comment.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire has not been disclosed.

Kolawole while speaking on the incident said he suspects sabotage but fell short of where the suspected sabotage might be from.

The Speaker when asked if the fire incident has a link to the recent happening between the Assembly and Dangote group, he said that that is left to the security to determine.

10. 2023: APC Tackles PDP For Saying Tinubu’s Candidacy Is Illegal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been condemned by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for saying its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu is not qualified for the 2023 race.

The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Ologunagba during a press briefing last week had said the court ruling which nullified Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s candidacy in Osun State might affect Tinubu.

Recall that a Federal High Court had nullified the nomination of Oyetola as the governorship candidate of the APC in the July 16, 2022 election.

The court nullified Oyetola and his deputy’s nomination on the ground that Governor Mai Mala Buni who submitted their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) violated the provisions of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

PDP also advised Tinubu to clear the air on the discrepancies in his academic qualifications and other controversies.

6. Identity Of Top Christian, Muslim Leaders Ganging Up To Boycott Tinubu/Shettima’s Ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 presidential ticket by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima has just met stiff resistance as religious leaders in the northern part of the country show rejection for a single faith ticket.

Naija News understands that APC’s choice of Muslim-Muslim ticket has been facing a series of rejections after Tinubu announced Shettima, a Muslim man from the North as his Vice Presidential candidate for the 2023 race.

Despite the calls for a review of the party’s choice, the ruling party maintained the status quo. However, a few months into the 2023 polls, Christian and Muslim leaders in the Northern region have reportedly united against religious and divisive tendencies in the polity.

The latest development, Naija News understands was the outcome of a consultative meeting and dialogue between Northern APC Christian Leaders and Northern Muslim Political Leaders held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.

Identity Of Nothern Leaders In The ‘Gang Up’ To Boycott Tinubu/Shettima’s Single Faith Ticket
Naija News understands that the said gang-up meeting of the northern religious and political leaders was in line with the resolve of Christian leaders within the ruling camp, led by the immediate-past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal.

The political stakeholders are working with their Muslim counterparts in the North to adopt one of the presidential candidates in a bid to defeat the same-faith presidential ticket of the APC.

A statement jointly signed by a former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State and former Minister of Water Resources during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Hon. Mukhtar Shagari and Hon. Dogara unveiled the names of those in attendance and in agreement with the resolution.

Some Yoruba groups, 121 in number have converged in Lagos under what they called ‘The 2023 Declaration’ to decide on which presidential candidate to support.

An influential group from the southwest, Afenifere has pledged their support to the LP flag bearer on the basis that the South-West has produced the president before and currently has someone from the zone occupying the Vice president’s office whereas the South-East has never been president since 1999 when Nigeria began the fourth republic.

However, the 121 Yoruba group under the leadership of the Alliance of Yoruba Democratic Movement, (AYDM) backed Tinubu notwithstanding their reservations about the APC.

The AYDM, described the election as another ‘Kiriji War’, saying it has appointed no fewer than 150, 000 people as campaign volunteers in the South-West region.

The ‘Kiriji war’ was fought between Ibadan and Ekiti following what the Ekitis’ described as oppression by the Ibadan people.

9. 2023: Tinubu’s Campaign Flag-Off Postponed

The flag-off of the presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for Monday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been postponed.

This is despite the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) starting its presidential campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

The postponement of the APC campaign kick-off is coming days after the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu returned to the country.

There are indications that the campaign was postponed due to the high-level consultations still being held among stakeholders.

Recall that a tripartite meeting of the APC governors, the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and the National Working Committee of the party led by Abdullahi Adamu was held at the party’s national secretariat.

The meeting was fixed by the ruling party to deliberate on the postponed zonal tour by the six National Vice Chairmen and also deliberate on modalities for the proposed ‘APC National Conference’ which it intends to convene before the end of the year.

The stakeholders also discussed the composition of the campaign council.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, in a chat with Vanguard, noted that the presidential campaign is a marathon.

He further stated that it has begun in Lagos, Katsina, Benue, Kogi and several other states.

Onanuga, however, stated that the flag-off of the presidential campaign will be dependent on when the party formally inaugurates its PCC.

Even though the party has not inaugurated its presidential council, its Women Wing has now been slated for inauguration tomorrow at the Presidential Villa.

Onanuga when asked if the campaign would still be flagged off tomorrow, Onanuga simply said, “No sir”.

The assault was allegedly carried out due to a directive from the governor of the state, Dave Umahi.

However, the state government denied issuing the order.

Reacting to the attack via a statement on Sunday, by the group’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP urged President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors to, at all times welcome freedom of expression, assembly, and equal participation during campaigns.

The organization advised Buhari to publicly instruct the police to protect the right of every Nigerian who takes part in the political process.

The group vowed to monitor how authorities protect fundamental rights ahead of the 2023 elections.

Oluwadare said respecting the rights of everyone to speak and gather would ensure that citizens can effectively contribute to the country’s democracy.

Top Nigerian Newspaper Headlines For Today, Friday, 7th October, 2022

Good morning Nigeria, welcome to Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Saturday, 8th October 2022.

This Flooding Demands A State Of Emergency

The wrath of nature raging across the country calls to mind an assertion made last year by the Minister of Water Resources and Rural Development, Engr Suleiman Adamu to wit: “No power on earth can prevent hydro pressure; no power can stop water. The power of water is stronger than an atomic bomb”. Nigeria is currently grappling with the worst flooding in a decade, with those hitherto emotionally divested or passing interest in flooding issues now realizing that this force of nature takes no prisoners. Two days ago, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority explained that the return of long queues in fuel stations in the Federal Capital Territory is the result of the submerging of the major artery into Abuja by the unprecedented flooding in Kogi State.

Before those outside the FCT continue playing the Ostrich, the point must be made that the attendant famine from this flooding will spare no one. At a time thousands of farmers have been pushed off their land owing to widespread insecurity, this flooding will in no small measure worsen the starvation in the country. Olam Nigeria Limited recently highlighted this after the submerging of the company’s 4400-hectares farmland in Nasarawa State. It has warned that the price of rice will go up in the country by December as massive flooding from River Benue damaged its crops and infrastructure. The agribusiness firm added that the flooding affected the company’s $20 million investment and about 25 percent of Nigeria’s rice needs.

We Parted With $200,000, Arrested Tukur Mamu Frustrated Our Moves – More Details Emerge On Released Abuja-Kaduna Train Victims

A member of the presidential committee that negotiated and secured the release of abducted Abuja-Kaduna train victims from terrorists, Dr. Abdulmalik Atta has shed more light on what transpired before they could achieve success.

According to him, the terrorists were not demanding money initially but it was the now-arrested ‘negotiator’, Tukur Mamu, the aide of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi that influenced the terrorists to make monetary demands because of his own selfish reasons.

Naija News recalls the remaining 23 kidnapped train passengers regained their freedom around 4:00 pm on Wednesday after being in captivity for six months.

Sharing some details of the process that culminated in their release, Atta whose father was also among the victims told Channels Television in an interview that the committee under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor made several sacrifices including sleeping in the bush and dialoguing with the terrorists despite the risks.

He however lamented that Mamu attempted to frustrate their efforts towards the rescue of the victims because of his own selfish reasons.

Appeal Court Orders ASUU To Resume Work Immediately

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been ordered by the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja to resume work immediately.

The Court of Appeal gave the directive on Friday while granting leave to ASUU to appeal the interlocutory injunction of Justice Polycarp Hamman of the Abuja Division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) on September 21, 2022, asking members of the union to resume work.

The presiding Judge, Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, warned that if ASUU fails to resume, it will automatically lose its right to appeal against the ruling of the lower court.

Justice Barka struck out the application by ASUU for a stay of execution of the order of the Industrial Court, based on the motion by the applicant’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), for the withdrawal of the application.

The Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Barka, ordered ASUU to file its notice of appeal on the ruling of the lower court within seven days.

PDP Crisis: Wike’s Camp Lists Conditions For Peace, Accuses Atiku Of Breaking Promises, Tackles Lamido, Aliyu

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his allies have insisted that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, must resign for peace to return to the party.

Recall that the Acting BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara; former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Tanimu Turaki; ex-Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris, and four others were in Port Harcourt earlier in the week in search of peace following a lingering crisis that showed no sign of abating.

According to sources, Wike told the BoT members that the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had serially failed to fulfill all the promises he made to the five governors who are insisting on the removal of the party chairman.

Speaking on behalf of other aggrieved PDP governors, Wike claimed that Atiku disappointed the Southern bloc of the party over and over with many unfulfilled promises.

4. 2023: Tinubu, Other APC Candidates May Be Disqualified From Participating In Election

There are fears that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu may be disqualified from participating in the 2023 elections.

Not only Tinubu, but it is also understood that other candidates of the party including the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Abiodun Oyebanji may be affected.

The fear stems from the Friday ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja which nullified the nomination of Governor Isiaka Oyetola and his running mate, Benedict Alabi, as APC candidates for the 2022 Osun State governorship election.

Naija News recalls their candidature was nullified on the ground that Governor Mai Mala Buni who submitted their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) violated the provisions of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Based on this, some political observers are of the opinion that all actions of Buni while in office as the APC caretaker National Chairman may be invalidated.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Barrister Felix Morka ruled out any such happening, stating that the judgement of the high court does not hold water.

He told Sunday Tribune that the party is very confident the Court of Appeal will set aside the ruling of the lower court on the matter.

5. 2023: Presidential Candidate Gets Summon From Party Over ‘Slow Preparations’

The presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Malik Ado-Ibrahim has been summoned by the party over plans for the 2023 election.

According to the party, members are not satisfied with the preparations in place by the presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.

A statement on Sunday by the YPP National Secretary, Egbeola Wale-Martins said the decision to summon Ado-Ibrahim was taken after the party’s 20th national working committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja.

He added that the gap in communication between the presidential candidate, the party leadership and its organs seem to have slowed down preparations for next year’s elections and hampered the expected fortunes of the YPP.

The National Secretary also stated that the outcome of the briefing from the presidential candidate would determine the next line of action to be taken by the party.

6. Strike: Ngige Leaves Meeting After Heated Argument With ASUU President During Negotiation

There was an angry moment of argument between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke during a negotiation meeting facilitated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Naija News reports that all stakeholders were properly represented at the meeting summoned as part of efforts to find a solution to the lingering ASUU strike which has kept the students of Nigeria’s public universities at home since February 14.

The various stakeholders including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha made various submissions on how to resolve the lingering crisis.

However, in the course of the meeting, Ngige accused the ASUU president of saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) government had kept children at home and that the Nigerian people should vote them out.

The accusation by the Minister was however refuted by the ASUU camp and some others at the meeting.

The accusation also infuriated the ASUU leadership and led to a rowdy session in which Ngige was called a liar who is fond of misinforming the public by Prof. Osodeke.

The Minister however walked out of the meeting even as both of them continued exchanging heated words.

8. IPOB: Nnamdi Kanu Did Not Give The Sit-at-home Order

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has said that the leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu, did not order Southeasterners to sit at home on the 4th day of October, 2022

IPOB stated this via a statement issued and made available to newsmen.

Ejiofor urged members of the public to go about their normal activities and ignore the said directive.

Ejiofor went on to dismiss speculations that Kanu will appear at Federal High Court Umuahia, Abia State, next Tuesday when a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf is scheduled to be held.

This is as the group stated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar was not capable of stopping the IPOB movement.

This declaration is in response to a statement credited to Atiku claiming he would stop Biafra’s agitation if he becomes Nigerian President.

The group warned the Waziri against mentioning its name in any campaign in the Southeast.
