2023 Presidential Campaigns Should Not Be On Lies – Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that the 2023 presidential campaigns should be based on facts and not lies. An APC chieftain and diehard loyalist of Tinubu, Joe Igbokwe, in a statement on his Facebook page, quoted the former Governor of Lagos State to have said this. Naija News understands that Tinubu made the comment while asserting that those Nigerian youths are deliberately being misled by some persons who never saw a million dollars until they got into public office or became banking executives and started looting the nation’s treasury. The presidential hopeful cautioned that the youths should not be misled any longer on his source of wealth, stating that any Nigerian who was smart enough to invest a mere N1.8m in Apple Corporation shares in 1980, would be worth more than N10 Trillion today. 2023: Bauchi Gov Drops Deputy, Unveils Jatau As Running Mate

Bauchi State governor and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bala Mohammed, has dumped his deputy, Baba Kaka Tela ahead of the 2023 race. Mohammed has picked the lawmaker representing the Zaki federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, as his running mate. The development was revealed by Jatau on Sunday while addressing newsmen in Bauchi. Jatau in his statement appreciated the state Governor for choosing him as his running mate, He promised to reciprocate the honour by being a loyal and supportive deputy governor. Read more.

2023: Obasanjo Speaks On Supporting A Presidential Candidate

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday spoke on supporting a presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election. Obasanjo while speaking during his visit to the former Head of State, Abdulsalam Abubakar said he does not have a preferred candidate. The elder statesman, however, stated that he only has a national agenda, not a preferred candidate. Obasanjo said, “I don’t have a special candidate, I have a national agenda.” The former President further stated that he was in Minna to visit Abubakar who had been indisposed. Read more.

Keyamo Sends Daring Message To All Nigerian Pastors Ahead Of 2023 Elections

The Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, has sent a message to Nigerian pastors ahead of the 2023 election. Speaking during an interview with Punch, Keyamo warned pastors to be mindful of political predictions as they might regret the outcome after the 2023 polls He advised pastors to learn from the 2015 election and avoid throwing their weight behind any presidential candidate. Wike Fooled Us, Imposed Governorship Candidate On Us – Aspirant

Some loyalists of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar in Rivers State have moved against the state Governor, Nyesom Wike. Recall that one of the governorship aspirants in the state, Farah Dagogo and aggrieved members of the party vowed to mobilize for a 10-million-man-march for Atiku. Dagogo who was recently detained lost his chance of clinching the party’s ticket due to his differences with Governor Wike. Another governorship aspirant in the state, Lee Maeba while speaking with Vanguard accused the state Governor of imposing a governorship candidate on them. He further stated that Governor Wike warned him not to come for the governorship primary because he would not get any votes. 2023: Wike’s Camp Backs Arapaja To Replace Ayu As PDP Interim Chairman

Loyalists of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State have proposed the appointment of Taofeek Arapaja as acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Naija News reports that Atiku and Wike, alongside some governors, had been at loggerheads since May 2022, when Atiku emerged as the presidential candidate of the PDP. The crisis escalated after Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, was unveiled as Atiku’s running mate on June 16. Moves to reconcile all parties have failed. Atiku had on Thursday met with Wike in London alongside governors of Abia, Benue, Adamawa, and Oyo States. There were other PDP stakeholders like Donald Duke who were in attendance. According to Premium Times, Wike’s group, at the meeting, demanded the resignation of the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as its condition for sitting down to negotiate with Atiku for the support of the group in the coming presidential election. Giving reasons for insisting on Ayu’s resignation, Wike’s group stated that his removal would balance the leadership of the party in which all the top national positions in the PDP are being held by members from the northern zones of the country. A former Minister of Transport and member, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ebenezer Babatope, has cautioned stakeholders of the nation’s main opposition party against moves that will jeopardize the party from unseating the incumbent government in 2023. This is as the party chieftain warned Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to stop making outrageous demands from the party. Naija News understands that Wike was offended by the PDP leadership and its 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar following activities at the party’s last national convention. Though Atiku had admitted that Wike will still work in his favour in the coming election and is not dumping the party as speculated in some quarters. PDP Crisis: Group Sends Message To Those Calling For Ayu’s Resignation

A socio-political group, Benue Advocates for Good Governance (BAGG), has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, not to resign from his position despite the crisis in the party. Naija News reports that some party leaders, especially those in the camp of Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, have demanded Ayu resign because the presidential candidate of the party is from the North. Reacting to the development, the group, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Terngu Aze, and its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Taiyol Terhemba Abraham, made available to journalists on Saturday praised Ayu’s courage to stay on as the party’s chairman. 2023: INEC Warns Churches, Mosques, Masquerades Ahead Of Election Campaigns

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned all political parties and candidates against the use of masqueraders, public facilities and religious centres for campaigns. The electoral body urged political parties to comply with the stipulations to avoid sanctions as stipulated by the Act. INEC National Commissioner and Chairman on Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye stated this during an interview with Punch. Naija News report that the statement is coming exactly one month to the commencement of campaigns which the commission has fixed for September 28 while the elections would hold on February 25, 2023. In previous elections, some political parties and their candidates were engaged in all kinds of theatrics, including the use of masqueraders, to entertain crowd and add colour to their rallies.
