BREAKING:Nigerian Government Announces New Electricity Tariff Hike

The Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has made a substantial adjustment to the electricity tariffs affecting Band A customers across the country.

The NERC has also made alterations in the categorization of customers, with some previously classified under Band A being downgraded to Band B. This reclassification is due to their inability to meet the criteria of hours of electricity supplied by their distribution company.

Following this adjustment, the number of feeders classified as Band A will decrease from 800 to less than 500. Consequently, only 17% will now qualify as Band A feeders, catering to the 15% of the total electricity consumers connected to these feeders.

Oseni highlighted that the commission has issued an “April Supplementary Order,” allowing for this rate to be implemented. However, it’s important to note that this tariff hike is specific to Band A customers and will not impact those categorized in other Bands.
