Super Eagles’ Terem Moffi Suffers Long-term Injury, Brentford Rule Out Igor Thiago
Nigeria forward, Terem Moffi will be sidelined for several months due to a cruciate ligament injury.
Terem Moffi, who copped the injury in training, is expected to undergo surgery later this week.
His Ligue 1 club, OGC Nice, revealed the unfortunate incident via a statement on their website, which reads: “Injured during training, Terem Moffi (25 years old) underwent additional tests today. These confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.”
The striker could return to action before the end of the 2024-2025 season.
Recall that Moffi joined the Red and Black from another French club, Lorient in January 2023. Since then, he has scored 20 goals in 52 appearances for Nice across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Premier League club Brentford have ruled out their record signing, Igor Thiago, for the rest of the year after undergoing knee surgery.
The Brazilian striker, who signed a five-year contract with Brentford for £30 million in June 2024, injured his meniscus during his debut on July 20 against AFC Wimbledon.
His injury coincides with reports that the club’s English striker Ivan Toney may be leaving the team this summer.
Brentford announced the 23-year-old will “begin a period of recovery and rehabilitation and is expected to return towards the end of the year”.
Last season, Thiago assisted Belgian side Club Brugge in winning the Jupiler Pro League with 18 goals in 34 games.
