Rasheedat Ajibade Plays Down Super Falcons’ Defeat To Canada Ahead Of 2024 Olympics
Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade has written off their 1-0 defeat to Canada women’s team which was their last test match before the 2024 Olympics.
Rasheedat Ajibade described the test game which took place behind closed doors in Sevilla, Spain, as a “good one” in terms of the overall play of the nine-time African champions.
Before the meeting between the two countries in the friendly, the last time they met was in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the said meeting, the Super Falcons were able to hold the reigning Olympic champions to a draw.
Hence, nothing less was expected in the friendly game that took place between the two countries on Wednesday. But Ajibade noted that the Super Falcons failed to do much because they failed to take their chances.
The only goal that separated the two countries was scored by Jordyn Huitema following a defensive error by Deborah Abiodun in the eighth minute of the encounter.
“It was not a bad test match, we lost 1-0 but it was not a bad one, we had good moments in the game but we did not utilise our chances,” Rasheedat Ajibade said according to Afrik Foot.
“Yeah, it was a good game to help us prepare ahead of the tournament, so now we know what we need to work on and move forward.”
Rasheedat Ajibade and her teammates will begin their 2024 Olympics campaign against Brazil on July 25. Afterwards, they will take on other teams in Group C, Spain and Japan.
