Possible Suicide? Lagos Deputy Commissioner of Police Found Dead in His Apartment

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gbolahan Oyedemi, serving with the Lagos State Police Command, was found deceased in his private residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

This heartbreaking discovery was made on the morning following the Easter celebrations, sending ripples of grief throughout the community.

DCP Oyedemi was not only a distinguished officer in Lagos but also deeply connected to Oyo State. He served as the aide-de-camp (ADC) to the late Adebayo Alao Akala, a former governor of Oyo State, in 2006 and hailed from Ogbomoso. His return to Ogbomoso for the Easter weekend from Lagos marked a tragic end as he was found in a state that suggested a possible suicide.

The community and those who knew him are in shock. “He came with his aides for the celebrations and asked them to join their families for the festivities. We were utterly shocked to learn about his demise the following day,” shared a former aide to the late Governor Akala, who worked alongside DCP Oyedemi.

Further insights into DCP Oyedemi’s life reveal a man of modest beginnings and significant accomplishments. Originally residing with his mother in a home he built for her in the Randa area of Ogbomoso, he later constructed another house in the Federal Lowcost area, on Petros Academy Street, where he had been living up until his untimely death. Oyedemi, who was unmarried, leaves behind a legacy of service and a community in mourning.

Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
