A break-out group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as the G5 Governors, have held a fresh meeting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Naija News reports the G5 Governors met at the residence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
These governors refused to support the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, because they believed the presidency and the party’s ticket ought to rotate to the southern region of the country.
At the time of filing this report, the details of the meeting were yet to be made public.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that he is fully behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the September 21 election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo.
Naija News reports Makinde revealed his preferred candidate on Wednesday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, to international standards.
The Oyo Governor made the revelation while reacting to reactions that have trailed his absence at the PDP campaign grand finale for the forthcoming polls in Edo State.
While urging all PDP members to rally around Ighodalo, Makinde also urged the people of the state to vote for the PDP candidate in Saturday’s election.
“Tongues have been wagging about my absence at the campaign grand finale, let me declare that Seyi Makinde is 100 per cent with our candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo and if Edo people want to know the difference between delicious and nutritious, they should vote for Asue Ighodalo for them to get what is nutritious,” he stated.
The position of Makinde was revealed a few days after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ahead of the September 21 Edo State governorship election, said he wouldn’t support Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He also pledged not to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who has the support of the outgoing Edo State Governor.
