Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on Friday rescued a 59-year-old man, identified only as Yemi, who was attempting to commit suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge.

In a statement, the police said RRS officers on routine patrol spotted the man standing dangerously close to the edge of the bridge, preparing to jump into the lagoon. The incident occurred around noon.

According to the police, Yemi, a resident of Ilasa, Lagos, revealed he was overwhelmed by personal challenges. The RRS shared details of the rescue on their official Facebook page.

Commander of the RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has since counselled Yemi and ordered that he be kept in protective custody until his family arrives.
