President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, promised to assist the governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma in tackling insecurity among other challenges in the state.

The presidential visit to Imo state on Thursday, September 9, 2021 was to commission some projects built by governor Hope Uzodinma.

Buhari made the promise following the requests made by the state governor, seeking the intervention of Mr President in solving issues ravaging the state which cut across security, flooding, among others.

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that prior to President Buhari’s working visit, residents of the state of Imo have been experiencing various degrees of insecurity, which resulted in tensions in the city of Owerri, the Imo state capital, among other places in the state.

Consequent upon the several activities of the Unknown Gunmen, alongside other criminal activities rocking the state of Imo, governor Hope Uzodinma pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari for an urgent aide.

Reacting to the promise made by Buhari, some concerned citizens have admonished the president to first tackle the insecurity in Kastina his home state, among other states in the North where banditries and insurgencies have become the order of the day.

They further averred that the presidential visit was more of a joke as the Governor still dwells in the glories of the past administrations in the state.

“The South East especially, Imo state is still more peaceful than Kastina, President Buhari’s home state. Why not address the insecurity in the North where banditries and insurgencies have become a daily routine”?

“What have the governor to commission for the state when it’s virtually all about the past administrations”.

While commenting on the actions of the people in the South East toward Buhari’s working visit to Imo state, they said that the people in the region have sent a clear message to the president of Nigeria and the federal government.

“The people of the South East have sent him a message, the federal government ought to start up actions to address the people’s grievances”.
