Labour Party (LP) candidate Olumide Akpata has lost his polling unit to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the Edo Governorship Election.

At Polling Unit 11, Ward 06 in Oredo Local Government Area, Ighodalo secured 41 votes, while Akpata received 32 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, finished third with 19 votes.

After voting earlier, Ighodalo confidently predicted a landslide victory. He urged voters to come out, expressing concerns over attempts to manipulate the process, particularly by APC supporters. He mentioned reports of individuals being caught with ballot papers and PVCs and vote-buying between N15,000 and N20,000.

Despite these challenges, Ighodalo commended the Nigerian military for maintaining security, adding that his party spent 10 months engaging with the electorate across the state. He expressed confidence in a fair election, stating, “The people believed us and have accepted us all over the state.”

Ighodalo remained optimistic about the election outcome, asserting that any attempt to subvert the process would be unsuccessful. He also noted the arrest of one of his supporters in Uromi, but remained confident in an eventual victory.
