Fani-Kayode’s Travail Begins Few Hours After Defection To APC
A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, officially defected to All Progressive Congress, APC, on Thursday, September 16.
The 60-year-old politician was with the now ruling party until June 2014 when he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
While in PDP, Fani-Kayode was a big critic of the incumbent government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, Naija News understands.
Fani-Kayode, while he was still a ‘party faithful’, holding the umbrella in the main opposition camp, called President Buhari and many members of the APC unprintable names, rubbishing the government at all levels.
The Lagos-born lawyer had in one of his numerous social media posts, said he would rather die than join the APC.
However, after his return to the once-tagged ‘filthy, rat-infested, sinking ship, Almajiri People’s Congress’, FFK licked his vomits saying all his criticism of the APC were merely political.
The politician while still feeling the vibes of his acceptance back into the APC, ‘slipped his tongues’ to narrate how he influenced the defection of three state governors into the party.
Fani-Kayode’s Travail:
FFK’s travail started at this point after the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, denied his claims.
New party member already a liar?
Governor Umahi couldn’t hold his peace but served Fani-Kayode a hot one calling him a liar.
Naija News recalls that Umahi defected to APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last year. While FFK on the other hand formally joined the ruling Party from the PDP yesterday.
You still couldn’t figure this out? Could you?
FFK who served under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration had named Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State in his list of governors he helped join APC, both of whom defected this year.
Reacting to FFK’s claim on the same platform on Friday morning, Mr Umahi called the latter a liar and demanded an apology for his ”insulting” claim.
Umahi said: “For someone to come and say that a whole Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, that he was instrumental to my movement from PDP to APC is an insult on my person and with all due respect, he has to withdraw that statement.
“He remains my friend and a good one for that matter, but he played no role in my movement and I am sure he didn’t play any role in the movement of the rest of us,” the governor countered on Channel Television breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.
Meanwhile, an official aide to President Buhari on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, in a Facebook post after the news of the ex-minister joining the APC went viral, marked the day as the saddest in his political career.
“This is the saddest day of my political career,” Ojudu wrote.
